Wondering if your credit card number could be in the hands of a crook? Look for a charge for $9.84.
The Better Business Bureau issued a fraud alert last week about a raft of consumer complaints all reporting the same niggling charge. The business levying this fee may purport to provide customer support, or it may simply identify itself as any one of a number of different websites.

I save all my card receipts and check them off against the bill. Only takes a few minutes and helps ensure nothing is amiss.

Set your alerts at your bank/cc to notify you w/email of every debit/charge.That helps, but it's not fast enough.
With my bank, the alerts come one, maybe two days after the actual charge is made.
Fraudulent charges were made on my card recently, and I got a call from the bank. By then, the account had already been frozen. No email alert was ever sent.

Good point. Next time I visit Riverside Nat’s Cemetery I’ll consider a side trip.

...the person we talked to didnt seem interested in who was behind it.That person might well be the one getting a small commission on credit card numbers he provides to the scammers.

I would be very reluctant to use a credit card in a second or third world country. I’d say places like Canada, Britain and Germany are about as safe as the US. Greece, Turkey, and Africa I’d pay with cash or travelers checks.

I was notified by my bank in December of this charge. I had banks alerts activated at the time. My account was charged for 9.84 plus foreign transaction fees.
Needless to say. Since I saw it quickly, the bank replaced my card and repaid me for the charges.
This is a real one folks.

It also keeps me on top of what my wife has been spending money on...
