I never cheer when someone dies - but you sound like a liberal who claims when someone makes horrible life choices they shouldn't be responsible for their own actions.

Abuse of drugs, legal or illegal, and alcohol are choices someone makes. They take that risk without regard to how it may affect their family members. Most addicts are a continual source of grief to family members because they refuse to get help or the family supports them only to have them relapse. I have sympathy for the family, but not the abuser. They made the choice - the family just has to live with the consequences.

Except, when they are young, those choices are not ...informed, and those deaths, are as random, as a car accident.

No, I merely think that we shouldn't celebrate the death of others.

Or use it as an occasion to remind ourselves how much better we are.
