Anyone who rides a motorcycle will tell you that there’s nothing like the thrill of riding headlong on the open road with the wind in your face and worries at your back. A motorcycle is truly one of man’s best friends. But what if someone changed the formula — a formula, mind you, that’s been relatively unchanged for a over a hundred years.

Chris Hoffmann may just be that man, and his one-wheeled RYNO motorcycle may be the next great invention in the motorcycle world.

But what exactly is a RYNO?

Acceleration and braking probably a real challenge.

Made in the People's Republik of Portland.

(From the article) Right now this new technology is still in the prototype stages, but when the RYNO takes to production — hopefully sometime this year — it will cost $5,295 from its production facility outside of Portland, Oregon.

Video of riding in the rain, but you're right, no quick starts or stops or turns.

Looks pretty cool but people don't see you on a two-wheeled bike as it is.

Looks like they hired Caliph Baraq for their sales brochure:

clever, ingenious, fascinating..

Yet stupid, beyond dangerous, impractical. Unless it was to be used like a sit down segeway to get around office complexes and theme parks. Maybe a large college campus.....where it would be stolen in jig time.

Plus, you’ll never do balls to the walls 90 mph out on a country road.

Very limited capability for the price:

Q: How far can RYNO travel on a charge? How fast? A: Depending on conditions and riding style, you can go around 10 miles on your RYNO. Top speed is 10mph, the pace of a very fast run.

No because top speed is 10 mph per their sales brochure.

I wonder how many people riding these will be killed on the road if it ever makes it there. It's hard enough to see a bike now when it's splitting lanes ans sliding up next to you in yours. How is it going to bee with something smaller?

He...it'd need training wheels for that! And a big sissy bar for Reggie.

Well I’m glad that it has been done, it needed to be.
But not on the roads around here, not fast enough away.

Eh, I’ll pass. I admit it’s a clever little thing, but I don’t like anything less than four wheels underneath me. I wanted a motorcycle in the worst way until I actually rode one. Two blocks at under 30mph, riding on the back of my buddy’s Honda Rebel was enough for me.

I know, I know, I am complete wussy. :-) I just never trusted the bike to corner without falling over.

BTW, I cannot imagine being one of those guys who get pulled over for doing 150 on the highways. Whether I crashed or not, at that speed I’d definitely be having an accident...
