The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.'

Good evening all. We’re covered in snow here and this week it’s not expected to get above freezing!

One week to Superbowl, who do you like? I’m picking Denver as it seems to be Manning’s year; however Seattle is a slightly better team.

Tonight’s lineup? Ok. Will be interested to see what Women’s Rights are in My Favorite Husband. Sam Spade is solid, never heard of FBI in Peace and War, and Gina will be happy with an hour long Sherlock Holmes...

Yes, indeed! Love me some Sherlock Holmes! :-)

You’re frozen in, Vision! I guess that means no barbecuing tonight. We even have snow possible (”wintry mix”) in our forecast for late Tuesday! Even though it happens once in a great while, freezing precipitation is not common down here.

We’re going for Denver, too, just because Seattle beat the Saints twice, and we want them to lose!

There’s not much new here, Vision. Typical Sunday, laundry, house cleaning, etc. One different thing though: we went to an oyster festival today over at Pass Christian harbor. It was lame. We didn’t eat anything, just looked around a little at the “arts and crafts” booths and carnival rides. They had a stage set up, and this southern rock-type band was playing at a volume so loud, you had to yell into each others’ ear to be heard. They were pretty crummy, too, and we wished they would stop playing.

We’re just ready for this arctic air to take a hike. Maybe after this next wave, we’ll get back up to average temperatures.

Hanging in there. Probably won't be at the keyboard too long. The wife and I got hit with the worst head colds in years, so I'm probably going to go curl up in bed and try to entertain myself with the Pro Bowl.

There are some good one liners in this, lol: 6 brandies..."Then this should be a refreshing novel experience..."

Well you tried to have a good time at the festival, that's what's important.

Yeah, we went there to see our elderly friends who were enjoying the food. Tom and Mary are 80-81, and their friend Doris is 91. We met them there briefly.

I had a cold coming on this week, tried zicam, and I think it worked. Apparently there are other pre cold remedies also, but give them a try. Gina's already hip to this.

Yes, Zicam rocks, and so does Airborne. Taken in conjunction, they will greatly reduce the severity and duration of a cold, even if you don’t start taking them until after the cold has set in.

Yeah, I made a quick run to the store for cat food, but forgot about cold meds because my firewood guys were here unloading a new cord on the porch and wanted paid. I'm sure there's something in the bathroom closet somewhere, but this bug went from zero to sixty in about 12 hours. It blindsided us and dug in deep. Really nasty. I know it's cold up there - I usually get my daily e-mail update from Cumberland. LOL The bottom is going to drop out down here tomorrow night again, and we're under a rare winter storm watch for Tuesday - a few inches of snow on top of up to a quarter inch of ice. It'll be a good time to stay in and burn some of that wood.

I'll definitely take that under advisement, assuming one of us can get out of bed tomorrow. The missus didn't get out of bed today until almost two this afternoon, and she's usually up before the sun. Even then, she made a beeline for the sofa and has been buried under a pile of blankets. Needless to say, we didn't attend church this morning.
