If a large PC OEM like HP or Dell provided a fully-functional laptop or desktop with Ubuntu Linux, would you buy it? Is the promise of technical support with a product a lynchpin for purchase?
Most people who buy a machine with Windows don’t ever call MS tech support. They call a tech-savvy family member or take the computer to a computer repair shop. Just because there’s no “mainstream” phone tree to call for Linux tech support doesn’t mean the product is inferior to any other.
Microsoft’s been compiling a library of drivers since the 90s and it’s included in almost every distribution of Windows. Why support old crap?
