yeap. I have a friend who was using the system from one of the “security” companies. Ridiculous monthly charges and when she had problems, nearly impossible to fix and get out of the contract. The Iris system that Lowes is offering is free to cheap. And if I want out, I am out.

All the players are looking to capture their customers so they can bill them monthly.

Cox cable will provide you with a hard wired system.

The wireless, to the internet part, seems to be a domain of AT&T.

Somebody is going to break the “Monthly pay” model before too long with an open architecture. I pay an extra $5 per month to Cox Cable, so I can have two PC’s with addressable Ip’s. They don’t seem to have much control over my Netflix box. I don’t know ?

IMHO, there is an effort by the ISP’s to capture that monthly fee by either restricting access and/or keeping their customers in the dark.
