I agree that the PAT should be scrapped, but why not in its place give the kicking team 1 point if the kickoff is not run back, ie goes into the end zone and not returnable, or the receiver doesnot return it. That would immediately add to the game action. The idea of a TD is now 7 pts makes sense too, since the PAT is routine.

Don’t agree. If it’s too routine then move the ball back to the twenty or twenty five and kick from there.

How about giving points for touchdown celebration choreography? A nice five minute dance routine can give you up to three extra points while the officials review the touchdown.

I think if you convert a two-point conversion, you should get the ball back.

I know, we'll call it a "rouge."

I like your ideas.
Or make the PAT substantially more difficult...maybe from the 40 yard line.

Replace the place kick with the old drop kick?

Touchdown = 7 points....then put the ball on the 25 yard line and allow one shot at the endzone for 3 points. No kicking.

Why not just make each touch down worth 1 point. Each successful field goal worth +3 points and each missed field goal worth - 6 points. Touch backs will be worth 0 points.

that should liven things up.

But they also may do away with kickoffs for safety concerns.

Goodell: NFL may consider scrapping PATs, adding excitement to TDs

That would be RACIST!!! one of the last skill sets where whites excel would be eliminated.

Maybe they should play it indoors with smaller fields - about the size of a hockey rink and add more narrow goal posts with nets on the side...oh wait...never mind.

They could scrap the extra point kick, and require that you go for the two point conversion or nothing at all. They could require that the extra point be kicked from much farther away. They could do various things to add excitement to that play. I agree that the extra point has no excitement, when they make it 99+ % of the time.

Heck, even top relief pitchers in baseball only save about 90% of their save opportunities. Free throws in basketball are also in the low 90% range for the best there. Can’t think of anything else in sports which is so automatic as football’s extra point.

Once you change the rules, they need to stop comparing records with past years.

I have an idea...Let’s lengthen the field to 110 yards....and how ‘bout this, they only get 3 downs instead of four....And we lengthen the end zone from 10 to 25 yards. I wonder what that would look like?

I recommend muzzles&dead mics for sideline reporters and defensive backs after ‘in yur face’ plays.

The game is lost.. and so are a lot of fans who endured the crap the game has turned into.

"..it’s automatic that you get seven points when you score a touchdown, but you could potentially go for an eighth point, either by running or passing the ball. But if you fail, you’d go back to six.”

What a great idea!

What frosts me more than the automatic PAT is kneeling on the ball to run time off the clock. If I had my way, each team would get so many possessions (4 or 5 per quarter seems like a good number) and the game doesn't end until the losing team has possession and misses a scoring opportunity via missed field goal, TD, four downs without conversion or turnover.

The sudden death situation is what makes overtime exciting and regulation play a total waste of time once the winning team gains possession in the final seconds.
