PBS.

Yet another ‘different’ take on the Holmes character.

Quite well produced.

On tumblr, for two weeks they’ve been discussing this, posting gifs and pix, you name it. It’s hard to believe it hasn’t officially been seen in the US yet!

Decisions, decisions—The Mentalist or Sherlock Holmes? Which to choose?

Darn, I don’t get PBS. I used to get it back before they went to digital. The odd thing is when I got PBS, I only got around 5 channels over the air.

Now I get over 15 but none are PBS. I really liked the Jeremy Brett series.

Another Sherlock Holmes brought into the 20th Century. This is the third season of four episodes each, and actually they are very well done and follow the original Conan Doyle stores to a remarkable degree. I'll be the first to admit that they aren't for everyone but I suggest they're worth your time to try them out.

In the interest of full disclosure I'm a big Holmes fan - except for the two Robert Downey movies - and I think that "Elementary" is the best TV show to come along in a very long time.

Holmes. Baker, the Aussie, not the address, is a re-run. Football’s screwing up/giving the programming morons a break, um, excuse not to do their jobs.

Actually I scanned for new ones yesterday. I used to get PBS from Florida State in Tallahassee but now can’t get anything other than Panama City or Dothan, Alabama.

All the old stations changed from a single program to 4 a piece but still no PBS. I have noticed that one of my televisions will pick up more channels than the other one and they use the same outside antenna.

As painful as it is, I'm waiting for the DVD. Our TV isn't even hooked up to get a signal anymore.

Sherlock is one of the few shows that doesn't insult the viewer's intelligence.

It also hold a record you won't find on any award show: It's gotten me to write. I'm dyslexic, I hate writing, and I have a hard time putting things into words. I failed nearly every English class I ever took. Yet, I currently have 3 Sherlock episodes in progress, and my proofreaders say they're really good!

This travesty of a "show" is the palest possible pastiche of Conan Doyle's character. Lots of money in such pastiches today, I suppose.

Apparently, people can be conned into watching virtually anything these days. Rather similar to Holmes in this particular bit of lassitude, as narrated by Conan Doyle, enjoying a regular injection of cocaine or morphine because he is otherwise bored with life (do pls read the first chapter of "The Sign of Four" before you author a disagreement with this observation).

Frankly, I'm somewhat amazed that the leftist producers of such tripe haven't seized upon the literarily correct opportunity to use Holmes as a medium for even more subversion of what used to be ordinary personal responsibility, by featuring the character's use of opiates and other chemical stimulants. Of course, this television production disdains presenting its re-creation of Holmes with any warts at all. Evidently, it escapes noticing that Holmes's assorted personal defalcations were a good bit of his charm to the reader.

That makes it easy. Also checked Twitter, Mentalist is an hour earlier tonight for some reason. Good thing I don’t have TiVo it would never catch that show with all the schedule changes.

Holmes it is!

...And meanwhile, Doctor Who fans hafta wait eight frippin' months before we see the first full installment of Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor. I think Moffat is spreading himself a little too thin.

I liked the 3rd episode in season 3; His Last Vow. Thought that was good.

Looking forward to it.

Being a lifelong fan of the original Conan Doyle stories, and hearing that this was going to be a "modernization," when the first season came on, I thought I wouldn't like it. But I did.

It turns out the creators are also big fans of the original stories, and they have made a very entertaining modern version of the stories, true to the spirit.

Thanks but I can’t use my limited download credits to watch movies etc.

I live in a rural area where high speed internet is not available except by satellite. They finally offered a plan I could afford ($39.95 a month) but it is the cheapest one. It offers enough for normal surfing and even a few short vidoes etc. but not enough for movies.

I will say it is incredibly fast compared to dial-up. I wish I could afford the really fast ones but this slowest is fine for now.
