Sen. Patrick Leahy says the American people are at risk of being controlled by their government due to the expansive surveillance powers of the National Security Agency.
Speaking on Fox News Sunday, the Vermont Democrat and chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee told host Chris Wallace that the nations lawmakers must act to return control of the government to the people.

Leahy is just pissed off that the government isn’t making any money off of this somewhere.
the leaky one
Amusing to hear a leading Democratic socialist warn about the government controlling people. His whole career has been about controlling people.
I'm not sure I understand why you say that. He's a Democrat. The other Senator from VT is an "I," but that's because the Rats aren't leftist enough....
O:h yeah...the evil, un-American Democrat Party is going to turn over a new leaf and give up the power that they have stolen from the citizens of the USA. I’ll be watching for pigs in the sky......
I am shocked, I tell you! Shocked!
Nice words on TV. Now record all of your private talks and play them back.
Let’s not forget he is well-known as “Leaky Leahy,” the dirt-bag that is a nasty partisan hack that cost people lives because of his deliberate leaking of classified information.

“Throughout his career, Senator Leahy has been caught leaking sensitive information to the press when doing so benefitted him or hampered his political opponents. Senator Leahy leaked information about a plan to topple Ghadafi, about an intercept related to the Achille Lauro, and about an investigation into the Iran-Contra deals. These leaks eventually caused him to resign his vice-chairmanship of the Senate Intelligence Committee and earned him the nickname ‘Leaky Leahy’.”

“While serving as vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee in the mid-1980s, Leahy earned the nickname ‘Leahy the Leaker’ because of his propensity to publicly reveal sensitive intelligence data.
In a 1985 television appearance, for instance, he disclosed classified information that had enabled the Egyptian government to capture the Arab terrorists who had hijacked the Achille Lauro cruise ship and killed an American citizen. Leahy’s indiscretion may have cost the life of at least one of the Egyptian operatives involved in that capture.
In 1986 Leahy leaked secret information about a covert plan by the Reagan administration to overthrow Libyan dictator Muammar Qadhafi. A few weeks later, details of the plan appeared in The Washington Post, and the operation was cancelled. [http://www.nytimes.com/1987/07/29/us/iran-contra-hearings-senator-leahy-says-he-leaked-report-of-panel.html].
In January 1987 Leahy was FORCED TO RESIGN as vice chair of the Intelligence Committee after leaking classified information about the Iran-Contra affair. It was considered to be one of the most serious breaches of secrecy in the Committee’s history.” [http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=861&dat=19870802&id=-J1HAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ZX8MAAAAIBAJ&pg=2981,7507406].
And, “According to a 2001 National Review story, Leahy was considered, by a consensus of Capitol Hill Republicans, the ‘meanest, most partisan, most ruthless Democrat in the Senate.’”
Just like Dingy Dirty Harry Reid, he puts party over the country and has no honor. A sleaze.
SOB has been in office how long? What has he ever done buy shackle the American people? Screw him and all the long suffering pols who have passed law after law to enslave us.
He has a point, but Leaky Leahy is not the man who should carry the message.
I’m not sure where to start.
On the one hand, the whole point of government is to govern people, that is to control them. Classical liberals (which includes American conservatives) regard the whole thing as a necessary evil (those with a Christian mind, seeing it as a consequence of the Fall of Man), and want as little government as can be reasonably had.
On the other hand, the pack that stole the name “liberal”, Leahy included, have always seemed very enthusiastic about government controlling people with ever increasing precision in ever broader spheres of life, so unless he repents of his prior positions and starts helping dismantle the Leviathan and putting the Federal government back in the boundaries the Founder set, I think Leahy should shut up.
Like he didn’t vote for obamacare, right?
How much control is TOO much control? I’m kinda thinkin’, leave me alone and if I need you I’ll call. Otherwise, leave me alone. But sadly, looks more and more like we’re guilty of something even if we are unaware of what it is. “They’ll” let us know.
Isn’t Leahy’s party principles based on controlling the people?
He must be up for re-election. :-)
He should be up for “sentencing”. Along with a “hole” lot of his fellow congress critters.
“On the one hand, the whole point of government is to govern people, that is to control them.”
Actually, to liberals/progressives (same thing), the aim to control OTHERS, not them.
That is why they are upset now. If the NSA was only monitoring conservatives, the liberals would be defending the NSA to the last man. ..err. . .pajama boy. . .but since they are being monitored as well, they are angry.

The only reason I can figure that he and Obama are talking like this is they fear that a Republican will be in the White House in 2016, and they don’t want him using the NSA to collect damaging information on Democrats like the Dems have been doing to Republican Congress members (and the USSC) for 5 years.
