“Cops have a right to go home every night whole and undamaged”
No, they don’t.
Show me any place or any where it says differently in any official job description of any LEO. It is never required of them by their departments or taught that they should do so by the LE academies. They do not have to sacrifice life of limb for me, you, or anyone else. When they stop you do they insist that you wear a bullet proof vest? Nope but you will see them wearing about 40 lbs of required gear all intended to keep them safe and uninjured. Their training is geared for their safety and to neutralize all threats before they are injured of killed. They are taught/trained to take care of themselves first.
The only exception to this that I know of is the Secret Service as they protect our top level elected officials and I do not put them in the same category as normal or regular LEOs.
