Both!
My cat is as affectionate as a dog, but I don’t have to walk her. I have the best of both worlds.
I’m sitting here looking at our cat. It’s gotta be a dog.
If want to go hunting with them, or if you need a cheap and effective alarm system, or want to play some sort of active game outside with them that involves running or long distances then dogs are the better choice.
If you want a companion you can easily carry to cuddle on the couch with or to play small games with inside, or need a cheap mouse trap, and don't like being slobbered on or having you or your guests crotches attacked then a cat is a better choice.
This is the difference between cats and dogs.
Cats and dogs are both nice but I have to say I like dogs better. Cats are easier because you can go off and leave them with plenty of food and water and a clean litter box for several days. Dogs need more attention, but then cats never warned me that my door bell was fixing to ring or that the mail had been delivered. I am going to have to go with dogs after considering everything. Dogs are worth spending the time to take care of.
I've always owned dogs. Before my Jake (English Springer) died in 2007, we obtained a stray cat. Or, he obtained us. In the last year and a half of Jake's life (17 yrs) he was blind. The short haired domestic (named him Tiger, because he looks like a tiger), literally took care of Jake (guide cat if you will). It was odd when Jake died, Tiger looked for him for a few days (got something in my eye)...
Anyway, one year later we obtained another stray, a calico. Named her Lady. From the moment we obtained the cats we started training them. Both cats are well behaved, and answer commands (come, stay, up, down, and no).
Now, we love the cats as much as Jake.
Jake, we will see you across Rainbow Bridge one day...(got something in my eye).

I love cats but have had dogs. I have had incredible love from both.
But cats are so cute;)
I have had both several times over but my preference is definitely dogs.
Dogs can also be personal body guards and home security systems too. Try that with a cat... ( unless you have a cougar for a pet ).
Dogs can travel with you in a vehicle, in most cases, easier than a cat.
Dogs can be trained to do incredibly more tasks than cats ( in fact, I never had a cat that could do much of anything useful other than be a cat). Try training your cat to run out and grab the newspaper from the yard when it’s freezing cold out ! LOL. !! Or just get the paper at all !! You gotta love dogs.
I like dogs and cats that think they are dogs.
I am a cat person. I just saw this earlier:
Science proves it: Cats are stupid jerks

My cat, Mr. Crackerjacks, loves to go on car rides. I’ll say “byes-byes” and he’ll jump up on my shoulder. I walk out to the car, open the door, and he jumps right in. He’ll then look out the passenger side window, like a dog. When we get home, I get out and he’ll jump right back on my shoulder for the ride back inside the house. We’re inseparable, and it’s like having a dog AND a cat!
This is going to be an interesting thread, LOL.
I adore dogs, but I will always be a cat person at heart.
Cats: hair all over the place and they go wherever they want - like the kitchen counters which drives me nuts.
My dog: poodle doesn’t shed but I have to walk her - which actually is good for me despite the weather.
Guess, despite growing up with cats, I’m a dog person.
If you are a giver, you prefer cats. If you are a taker, you prefer dogs. Dogs give affection, cats take it.
