OK, I’m going to get real about why I would never go to a theater to see this movie.
I live in a city, so the crowds tend to be, uh, “urban.” Movies about race, particularly from the black POV, tend to be populated by mostly black folks. In the past, these crowds that fill theaters for Spike Lee movies come out with pretty rotten attitudes about non-blacks, particularly whites (me). There was a riot at a movie theater recently near Rochester NY because the audience was whipped up by one of these propaganda movies. The Police spokesgal blamed the movie.
My sense of situational awareness says to never expose myself to that kind of crowd, it’s too dangerous to be a sole white face in a large room full of black people angry at white people. I refuse to make myself a target. So, Mr. Granderson, I will not be going to this movie. Are you ready for that kind of honesty?
Good call. However, there is lots of beating of black people going on in the movie itself, so it’s perfect for DVD.
