Is it just me and you tonight?
For a minute, I thought it was just me, lol
The theme tonight is Competitor's Pick, meaning (I thought) they would be forced to sing one song. But each of the other Idols picks a song for one person, then that person gets to choose from that list. So it's pretty much as wide open as any other week.
His pick is "Family Tree" by Kings Of Leon. EXCELLENT. I want to hear that again.
Keith: That was a good choice, man. I love that freakin' song. Great choice for you. Really highlights your strength. Such a consistent performer.
Jlo: You did it again. Great job.
Harry: A tune that could be on your record. I dug it. Great way to start the show.
Seacrest: First Kings of Leon song performed on Idol.
Playing guitars on the couch. That's about all it has going for it.
Harry: Hey, I liked the couch. That's a fantastic piece of furniture. A bit more saccharine. I thought it was sweet, and if that was what it was supposed to be that was fine.
Keith: A little chintzy. A little cute. I'm interested in seeing you individually.
And now Seacrest asks Demi Luvato for her opinion--and skips Jlo.
Demi: I liked it. It had energy. I wanted to see something more exciting.
What is this?
These cameos are odd ...
His pick is from Meat Loaf: John Mayer's "Gravity".
CJ: It's real soulful, man.
Meat Loaf: He's gonna take us to church with this one.
It's okay. He's not straining his guts out like he usually does.
However, there's a painful expression on Jlo's face ... then she realizes she's on camera, and she forces a smile.
Keith: That's one of my absolute favorite Mayer songs. Good performance from you too. But if you're going to do an emotional song, I'd like it to be more of an arc ... with a crescendo.
Jlo: Every week, you're getting more and more comfortable. YOu gotta look for the moments that are going to lift the crowd. It's about creating a performance that brings everyone to their feet. I want that for you so bad!
Harry: I think you have arguably the greatest gift any singer can hope to have, is connectivity. Good or bad, you always connect. This was your best performance to date.
Seacrest asks Jlo about the "stank face".
Jlo says the stank face was a good thing.
