Eschewing old Hardware and Software is a hugh seriesly looser for me.Yup. Me too. That's why I'm sticking with WinXP (disconnected from the internet) for utility and application use with Linux Mint15 running in a VM for internet access and email.
I like my current hardware. Runs great.

I just lost a 12 yr old flat panel this morning.
Oh well, back to some really old 23" Cad/Cam CRTs from the "pile".

Ditto. All of my important home office stuff is on an XP machine, now off the internet. I just got a refurbed PC on which I have Mint 16 (alongside Win 7 Pro which isn't being used). A KVM switch lets me go back and forth as needed.

You should try mint 16 petra . I tried mint 13, 14, 15, but stuck with 12 until mint 16. don’t think I have booted into windows in a year or so.
