Whatever happened to that captain who bailed early, took a lifeboat ashore and hailed a cab?

Capt. Francesco Schettino is currently on trial for alleged manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and abandoning the ship before all the passengers had been evacuated. He says he is innocent and that he saved lives with the ship's final maneuvers.

Should read "abandoning the ship before almost all of the passengers!" He was absent every time the "Birkenhead Drill" was mentioned! A coward dies a thousand deaths ...

He says he is innocent and that he saved lives with the ship's final maneuvers.

Does that work with cars, too?

"Your Honor, I'm innocent of speeding and killing 4 children in the cross-walk, because I swerved at the last-minute to try to avoid them!"

The captain was speeding through the narrow passage too close to shore because he was trying to impress a woman earlier that night.
