Vatican’s illegal downloads include ‘Billy Elliot’ and ‘Lesbian Hair Salon’

ROME (RNS) Computer users in the Vatican apparently have an illegal taste for the German heavy metal band Scorpions, the coming-of-age dance film “Billy Elliot,” the television comedy series “Camp” — as well as more, ahem, adult content — according to information from Netherlands-based company TorrentFreak.

TorrentFreak is a news site that focuses on file sharing and intellectual property issues, but may be best known for its occasional reports on the illegal peer-to-peer downloading of files.

The Vatican is not the only place guilty of illegal downloads, based on data gathered by the company: the U.S. Congress and even some of the Hollywood studios waging war against illegal file sharing have hosted their fair share of illicit downloaders.

TorrentFreak founder and director Ernesto Van der Sar said that because of the small number of downloads and the Vatican’s tiny population, it is difficult to draw conclusions about whether the number of illegal downloads at the Holy See are unusually high or low. But some conclusions can still be drawn.

“Keep in mind that with numbers this small, what we are seeing could be the work of as few as three or four individuals,” Van der Sar said. “One thing that stands out, though, is the lack of downloads of recent content. Usually, you see a lot of downloads of the latest blockbusters or new television series. But there is almost none of that at the Vatican.”

Van der Sar said estimates are that pornography makes up between 10 and 20 percent of all peer-to-peer downloads worldwide. And that’s the case in the Vatican, as well, where someone downloaded a XXX offering called “Flexy Teens Naked Gymnast,” for example, and another called “Lesbian Hair Salon.”

Matthias Jabs, Klaus Meine, Ralph Rieckermann and Rudolf Schenker of Scorpions.

Oh boy. I guess the media found their hit story. It certainly could be somebody in the vast Vatican who did this but it wasn’t the Pope. Try again dying media. Lord they are trying to take down the best Pope in history. Good luck you will need it!!!!!

Lord they are trying to take down the best Pope in history.

Considering 2000 years and 266 popes, that's a mighty bold statement.

That is one colossal stretch to state that Francis is the best pope in history!

Why? He has renewed the Catholic Church. People are flocking to Mass in droves. Goodness my church has had to add masses on Sundays. My sisters church is building a bigger Catholic School to keep up with the demand. The original school held 1200 students. They are building the new school to keep 3000 students and they hope that will be enough. It is crazy out there for Catholic Churches trying to keep up with the incredible demand.

I like the Scorpions. Does that make me a bad person?

The Scorpions I know. They were big in the 80s and had some great tunes.

I’m not sure why it would be a scandal that someone at the Vatican likes them.

“...and a documentary on Leonardo da Vinci.”

That’s almost certainly an Albino Monk Assassin who just wants to know where it all started after listening to some Scorpions.

The best Scorpions albums are from the 70’s before they went with the glitzy hair metal thing like german robots.

People are flocking to Mass in droves.

I most sincerely doubt this statement.

Along with millions of others I remain a traditional Roman Catholic who believes that the present Church operated from the Vatican is a new religion begat as a result of Vatican II. The current organization that passes itself off as the Roman Catholic Church operates much like McDonald's world headquarters and its franchises.

The liturgy and 'tenets' of this new religion resemble nothing of the Church that served Christians for over a thousand years.

In respect to the new Argentinian pope, he will do nothing to change the excesses of those popes that succeeded Pius XII. His pronouncements have been pure Marxist revolutionary theology with a large helping of the absurd added.

We’ve witnessed those coming back to church because of Francis support wealth redistribution, amnesty, socialized medicine, and arm waving during the music they’re trying to replace hymns with. I hope our new bishop stops this.

Unfortunately I wouldn’t count on American bishops doing anything that would interfere with the march towards liberalism (or modernism).

The hand-waving, the new hymns, the ‘priest’ praying towards the people in an act of pure secular humanism. It’s not about God anymore....it’s about ‘humankind’.

The new religion that calls itself ‘Catholic’ has joined the ranks of the UCC, ELCA, UMC, and the hundreds of other secular organizations that pretend to worship God and Jesus Christ.

As the article says, it could be as few as 3 or 4 individuals doing this.
