Trust me, if you follow a team, you hold your breath, because at any moment could be that catastrophic moment that spells doom. At this time of year, every point (3 points for win, 1 for a draw) is precious. If you don't score a goal, that's at least two points you're dropping. Four teams are battling for a spot in next years' Champions league, and not much separates the top 8 teams. And the end season battles to avoid the drop, are every bit as dramatic as the top battle for a Top-Four position.
And because the Premier League doesn't have playoffs, the regular season games are crucial.
Now the way the MLS is structured is more like the other traditional US sports leagues, so their regular season games don't carry nearly as much weight.
