The crockpot kills, one of the nicest things, is it makes the house smell homey...because of household size, we always need to use 2, and walking in the door after several hours is heavenly.

The Coq, falls off the bone if marinated over night.(no pun intended, JAsses)

You can even serve it up like pulled pork....(with 8 I cook much chicken, lol)

Look, I knew it was wrong at the time - it was very much a moth flame thing. It’s disgusting that she’s so freakin’ lame that in her case, I take the media’s side - that says a lot. And most of all, it ticks me off that so many people forget that at one point in the planning stage, she and her cohorts discussed if killing Nancy was the right thing to do. But damn XS, it’s hard to grow up in Hegewisch and not have a thing for trash....and what the hell is up with your memory woman!

Yummmmy! We just made chili sans beans over Cavatappi,...i just finished the leftovers for lunch. Took the easy way out, and drove to the bakery for the bread.

Don’t feel bad. Amy Locane actually did kill someone.

Married a guy that owns a liquor store in Princeton, was, I believe, 3x the legal limit.,Vehicular Homicide.

In the recent confusion, I didn’t think to replenish my sourdough starter, and so had to use the storebought stuff in a little foil packet that looks sort of like yeast-I hope it works and tastes like the “real thing”...

I will generally stock Grands, if I’m in a baking mood, or if I don’t want to drive to the bakery...oddly there isn’t one local,

The Coq au vin is part of memories of being a young wife and mom-we were both newly graduated, broke, living in a hovel with an inadequate gas furnace you lit with fireplace matches, with a mind of its own-good thing we were in love, because the thing barely kept it at 55-when it would light, that is...

That chicken dish was the nice meal I fixed when he’d worked some overtime and we had a few extra bucks. That was okay and romantic when I was young and idealistic, but I really hate revisiting it now, much older and jaded...

Nearest bakery here is Panaderia Mi Pueblo-very good ethnic bakery-I like their ginger piggies and pumpkin empanadas- but about 20 miles away...

I have a Panera in direction, and nice italian bakery in the other, but nothing close in town, oddly enough...so for dishes, i like the Grands bc you can cut the pats of butter, and serve them red hot.

For soups, I don’t care too much, because it’s hot when you dip, but like chili or dishes that cool quickly. I like bread from the oven.

(Gee, a Streisand Reference, and now cooking, anyone doubting my my heterosexuality can stop by lmao!)

Cooking, when it’s not your job, (ladies) is a relaxing and gratifying pursuit...like rebuilding apartments,.

For once, it passed us by. The snow anyway, the temperatures are falling fast. Frigid cold out already.

I got to the dentist, they were going to pull the crown and insert in permanently so that I can make the insurance claim. The crown was damaged, though. I now have the temporary crown back and have to wait for the permanent one to be rebuilt. RME There is always something.

DH watches some comedy show where she keeps cropping up. I told him it wasn’t worth watching if Harding was on it. I refuse to watch it, he keeps tuning in. RME

This is interesting. Fr. Steele:

    Fr. J. Steele

Today's gospel contrasts King Herod the Great with the Magi. Herod faked piety but actually was interested only in protecting his interests and the great kingdom he had built in his youth. He was being practical. The innocent children paid for his practical self protection with their lives. The Magi by contrast came on a strange and pious errand to pay homage to the one who was to come. They gave the best of what they had including themselves.

In the news this week is Notre Dame, which having lost its case has chosen to comply with the HHS mandate in order to protect its accumulated millions. Notre Dame is being practical. It is protecting its fine little kingdom. Notre Dame is appealing, but in the meantime, it is complying.

Also in the news are the Little Sisters of the Poor who are refusing to comply no matter the cost. If the Obama administration wants to confiscate their beautiful little ministry to the indigent elderly, they cannot stop him. But, they will not comply. As a matter of conscience they will not comply with an order to provide contraceptives, sterilization, and abortion-causing medications. They have the option to deputize someone else to provide these services on their behalf. But, they will not comply. The sisters are truly poor. They beg for everything they have. They have already given everything. Their conscience is all they have. And, they will not comply.

Which of these two is more like King Herod? If Notre Dame doesnt comply the fines will be in the millions, maybe a million dollars a day. Maybe it would cost Notre Dame a billion dollars (I doubt any court would enforce so great a fine on a conscience case). If Notre Dame provides for the abortion of even one single child, it would have been better to pay the billion dollars. But, Notre Dame is choosing to be practical, to protect what it has built. How many children might pay for Notre Dame's practical self protection with their lives?

All kinds of principles come to mind. "What profit one to gain the whole world and lose his soul in the process?" "You cannot serve both God and Mammon." Also the ancient pinch of incense before the pagan god comes to mind. Evil makes itself so easy to give into and so hard to resist. The measure of our integrity is what price we are willing to pay for what we know is right. A principle one is unwilling to stand upon is no principle at all.

    Notre Dame, refuse to comply!

I do not like to cook. My Danish GF insisted it was a man’s job. My mother rarely cooked. She worked two jobs most of my childhood. I think that’s why but I am trying to overcome my upbringing.

I don’t love to cook, don’t watch cooking shows etc and def don’t get off on doing complicated stuff. I just looked for recipes bc I feel my repertoire is limited and I’ve exhausted it since xs boy has been home. Xshub won’t eat any of this. His idea of a meal fit for a king woukd be potato skins, a salad and chicken tenders. We went to the ritz Carlton for Christmas brunch and they had both breakfast and lunch dishes, he likes breakfast food so he had that and then went to the kids table for chicken and fries! Xs boy loves to try new and diff things and he enjoyed the seafood bar and other things there. I do enjoy baking a great deal, though.
