We rarely ever hear of the recent Vietnam War. THAT was our generation, at least, whether we "won" or we "lost."
Not denigrating, just wondering.
Check out the Son Tay raid.
Probably not until we fight another war to win it. Since WW2 that has not happened. And that is not to denigrate those that fought or served anywhere any time. It is unfortunate that we lost so many good men and women in wars our leaders were not committed to winning decisively and violently.
I’ve been pondering this FRiend. I think the reason is that WW2 was the last war that pretty much everyone agrees was “righteous”. What I mean is that although there are always some pacifists and anti-war dropouts who are opposed to any conflict on principle, even the majority of liberals and progressives would admit that Hitler, Tojo and Mussolini were people that just had to be stopped. Many on the left however opposed the korean war, and especially the vietnam war (Hanoi Jane etc), and the fact that the outcomes of those conflicts were not so clean cut makes their opposition permeate through US society. In short, even after all thise years the Nazis still make the best villains because everybody hates them.
