In any case, I used to live a "couple thousand feet south" of where this photo was taken. Had to move because I couldn't afford the rent anymore.
Great post.
Chicago is a human cesspool out of which a few shiny baubles on occasion burp out.
You lived close to Fullerton then. Tough parking to say the least. A new condo opened recently just across from North Pond. I will buy a unit as soon as I win the lottery that I don't play. ; )

Just sayin.....
Have you ever been there?
The downtown area(skyscrapers, etc.) is between I-90 and the water. See the area on the map that shows Chicago harbor on the lake shore. The picture would be just north of there about a half mile or so.
Zoom in on downtown along the lakeshore. You will see on the map the “Museum of Contemporary Art Store”. The picture would have been taken from that point looking north.
Have I been THERE?
Don’t you mean HERE?
Do you even live in the craphole yourself?
Chicago doesn’t dump any sewage into Lake Michigan, you must be thinking of Wisconsin.
I mean Chicago. Lived there virtually all my life.
I think by “north Chicago”, he meant the northern suburbs. That’s where Great Lakes naval base is, so he would have had to drive through the city to get there.
“The crime isn’t particularly high in Rogers Park compared to places like Englewood.”
Yes, but Rogers Park is quite far from Englewood. Compared to the surrounding neighborhoods (save Uptown or Edgewater, which are worse), and you can see why it has a reputation. “Better than Englewood” just isn’t good enough for the kind of people that tend to live on the North Side.
All the cities on the great lakes dump sewage into the lakes.
A little digging will find Chicago’s own newspapers reporting on it. The most expensive water treatment system in the country and it still dumps millions of pounds of solid waste into the lake when it rains.
You are still calling it “there” which is a mystery to me.
I spent quite a bit of time in Chicago over the years.
Like most major cities I’ve had experience with, I have a love/hate relationship with it.
But when it really comes down to it, I won’t live in a major city unless I have to, and even then only for the shortest time possible.
“Green acres is the place for me...”
“The most expensive water treatment system in the country and it still dumps millions of pounds of solid waste into the lake when it rains.”
When there are extremely heavy rains, yes the system can overflow and backup into the lake. That’s not a standard occurrence, though. The normal procedure is for the waste to get dumped in the Mississippi :)
Well okay, but if you have to avoid areas of a city for safety, it seems to me you can’t call it great.
Did someone say Dallas was a great city?
