I never said it was. In the referenced Harlan Ellison video, he reiterated that Travers loathed the finished product. Not mentioned by Ellison was that she even asked Disney himself to remove the animated bits as the film was premiering, with Walt exclaiming that it was a bit late for that. How much of that was even mentioned in the film, I don’t know (according to Ellison, it apparently wasn’t).

It’s why I couldn’t understand how they could even make this film, since there was no real happy ending — sure, we got A film, and a great one at that, but we were also denied what could’ve been many more follow ups, and the permanent estrangement of Travers from having them filmed (indeed, she only later agreed to allow it performed in the theater - so long as it had nothing to do with the “Disneyfication” of her work).

It is made very clear in Mr Banks.
In fact the entire premise of the movie is that Travers loathes Disney, and is fearful of how he will butcher her story.

There is a good article in an old New Yorker about Travers and Disney. You should read that. It is available on line.

Harlan Ellison is not serious or reliable.

The stage version is very strange. I only liked the parts that were disneyfied. Step in time was fabulous on stage!
