The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.'

Merry Christmas all! Hope your day was magical and the Epiphany is still a while away...

We have a mystery lineup tonight as the schedule has not been posted; be on the lookout for New Years themed shows.

Did you get anything good?

Hi, Vision! I made over a hundred of my giant, awesome chocolate chip cookies and gave them out as gifts. Recipients were VERY happy. :-) I hope you had a really nice Christmas.

I can’t remember what Ed likes to play for New Year’s shows.

I can’t remember what Ed likes to play for New Year’s shows.

Off the top of my head, I can only remember one "The Shadow" New Year's Eve-theme show.

Think "Ground Hog Day". Lamont and Margo are out dancing at a party, and eventually Cranston's "keen mind powers" allow him to perceive that they, and the rest of the world, are in a time loop...

Can't say whether Ed has played it for New Year's.

I can't remember Ed playing a "Shadow" episode, but that one sounds swell! The Shadow knows!

We’re officially in rout territory (WAY beyond the 12-point spread), with 13 minutes remaining, the Saints currently up over Tampa Bay 42-17. WHO DAT?!!! :-D

Hey Gina, Christmas was great. That's a lot of cookies. Is that secret recipe? My only cookie recipe is the toll house one on the package.

San Francisco is not what I expected. It's really dry there. All the colors are muted and it's a desert. When you go to Fisherman's Wharf almost half of the people are speaking other languages. At times you would think you were in a US territory or something. There is cool stuff to see.

Get this, due to air restrictions we could not have a fire on Christmas. And, when this particular restriction is in place you cannot barbecue with charcoal. Ha! Insanity. I'd never live there.

Back home in Baltimore now. I have this week off and can't wait to have a peaceful week of barbecue and fun stuff.

I got some great rubs and a quick thermometer.

Yeah, we were surprised, but Ed said it’s only for this week, for New Year’s. Next week Johnny Dollar is back.

Yeah! We switched back to the game because of Lum and Abner, though. You saw up there that I wrote Ed said it’s only for this week?

Just sent that old ad to my mormon mom...popular coffee substitute with lds.

I’m “ex” and I fell in love with real coffee from the first sip...but I remember that Postum wasn’t half bad.
