Good evening all. I am thinking of either signing up for Hulu Plus or Netflix. Can someone tell me what the difference is between the two? Advantages and disadvantages? Thank you in advance for your replies.
We use Hulu Plus to watch favorite current season TV shows that we missed.
Netflix is for movies and older shows/reruns that aren't current year.
I use one TV that has Apple TV/Chromecast/Roku, and I put Chromecast on all the other TVs.
On Netflix, we have watch and enjoyed several series, such as Foyle’s War, which IMHO is the best program I have watched about WW II filmed in England.
We also enjoyed Brannich (I think that’s the correct spelling), which is a series about the 1st female medical doctor in London, and then there’s Downton Abbey which we thoroughly enjoyed, and I understand another season of that is being planned.
I don’t know anything about HULU.
And I can’t tell you how minutes I’ve wasted trying to find that darned Apple TV remote.
The one thing Hulu Plus has, that my wife would appreciate, is the Univision Novelas.
The only drawback to either Hulu or Netflix is a lack of sports programming, particularly NASCAR but also other sports. That’s a deal breaker.
Do you need to be a Netflix subscriber to stream to your TV? I just purchase a Chromecast.
I just got a Chromecast for Christmas, and either I'm doing something wrong, OR you need an iOS/Droid device to stream to the Chromecast in order to watch Netflix on TV.
Yes, you do need a subscription, I think we pay something like $8/month.
YES. Same goes for Hulu Plus.
Download the Netflix app from the App Store....If your phone is on the same Wireless channel as the Chromecast, you should see the Chromecast logo in the upper right part of the Netflix screen. Click on the logo, and it should list all of the Chromecasts avaiable, then select the one you want and you should see it on your TV.
Books.
Ping for reading later.
For current tv shows, many channels have them on their sites the next day. Of course, those are full of commercials but it’s free.
Acorn.tv- UK shows $4.99/month no commercials
I found alot of issues with the Chromecast version of Netflix and the Chromecast device that I did not like. Some examples are:
1. No ability to pause, or fast-forward while streaming a move from my iPad.
2. I could shut down my iPad and the Netflix "cast" would still be running on the Chromecast device and my TV
3. It seemed like I had "no control" over the movie whatsoever once the content started streaming to my TV.
Now my oldest son who has a Droid device said he could do all that and more from his Nexus 7. I'm going to try my Nexus 7 tonight. I did read that Google did not implement many features on the iOS platform that they did on Droid devices, but then why would they? iOS is a competitor....
or a ps3, roku, some tv’s are built in.
Chromecast? Come on, more google?
I noticed though that now ABC is requiring you sign in with a Cable Provider to watch their content online. The cable companies aren’t going down without a fight.
We have Netflix - it came on our TV. I am currently watching Breaking Bad on Netflix - they have all 5 seasons. They had a lot of current TV shows, one that comes to mind is the Sherlock series.
