IRVINE (CBSLA.com) An Irvine woman who adorned her home with rainbow bulbs has sparked a controversy in her neighborhood.
Dr. Mary Pham had no intention of covering her Irvine home with rainbow Christmas lights. But she says when the rainbow flag she displays on her home sparked hate mail and neighbors complaints, she decided it was time to make a statement.
Pride, said Pham. Pride for my home, pride for all my friends.
Pham, a straight woman and single mother, said her gay friends inspired her to display the rainbow flag and lights with pride.
Since its Christmas, lets come up with some lights, said Pham.
Her lights and flag led to controversy. When her gay pride flag fell down, an anonymous resident left a handwritten note urging her to put it back up.
Meanwhile, Pham says others have driven by and yelled racial slurs. She was notified by her homeowners association that some of her neighbors wanted the flag to be taken down, she said.
One neighbor wrote to the homeowners association asking is the gay pride display protected by free speech rights?
The letter went on to say that neighbors are shaking their heads in disgust.
The flag has two wedding rings interlocked, another neighbor wrote. Its an eyesore.
Pham told KCAL9′s Stacey Butler she was accused of making an offensive political statement that was in your face to neighboring residents.
When someone started placing offensive fliers on her car, she filed a complaint with the Anti-Defamation League.
The homeowners association reportedly wrote to the neighbors saying that they could not stop Pham from displaying the flag. None of those who objected were willing to speak on camera.
You laugh but create a rainbow Confederate flag with the words “Gay Southern Pride” and watch the heads explode.
Lying for the LGBT. It’s their first article of faith.
There will always be dumb stupid people. This proves it!
she is a useful idiot.
she is the type that turns her children into sodomites.
I am sure she was silent when vets were told to remove their US flags. That is one of the reasons I won’t live in a condo or subdivision.
Hitler wanted mothers to bear ten children apiece for the reich, LGBT expands their powerbase by sexualizing the young.
Same end goal. Domination, death, and remaking the world in their own image. Hell on earth.
When someone started placing offensive fliers on her car, she filed a complaint with the Anti-Defamation League.
Free speech for me, but not for thee!
I don’t know because I did not see it in the article, but I wonder if the offensive flyers were invitations to local churches?
What is it with all these professional perpetual victims and “pride?” Their heads explode at white “pride.”
First off the woman is confused. The ADL has no ability to do anything about this.
The thing that bothers me most about all of these types of stories is that I expect better from conservatives. We want to practice our religion and enjoy free speech. In that spirit we need to allow others the same. To get worked up over a flag is silly. And who cares what type of lights she has on her house?.
Perhaps it is just my more libertarian side but I don’t see the point of any of this
do you put lights up at Christmas time? If so what color? I guess I am clueless but I have always used multicolored strings of lights.
Let’s hope all that electricity use results in some kind of accident. God is not mocked.
The rainbow flags are a good thing, in that you know what houses to tell your children to stay away from.
So she has a "right" to be "offensive" but no one else does. Isn't that typical?
Maybe your neighbors do not take pride in perversion.........
Have to say I would agree with them.
about 20 years ago I had new neighbors move into the house next door. They were two professional women and were new to our city. They immediately put up a rainbow colored windsock. Although the immediate neighbors commented on it, no one paid much attention to it. In other words, we ignored it. About a year later, they took down the windsock.
Over the next few years we became well acquainted with these 2 women, and they proved to be very good neighbors. They were friendly, we had a small group of women in our are (seven of us) who always celebrated birthdays. We chatted about lots of things including gardening and even, on occasion, politics. Of course they were liberals, but did not seem to be obnoxious about it.
One day they told us that they liked our neighborhood better than any they had ever lived in. They did not explain whether they had experienced unfriendly attitudes in other place they had lived (Maine and Massachusetts).
They live now in Seattle. I wonder if they put up their rainbow windsock there too?
They are not Christmas lights if they are arranged to display two partners in marriage of same sex.
She’s promoting a political message of legalizing same sex marriage, Christmas has nada to do with it.
Also the article mentions that her Cusco-Peruvian flag (oh wait NOW it’s a gay pride flag) fell down (no reference that anyone else mucked with it or tried to steal it) prompting her to go bigger (and gayer).
To leftists, everything is politics and nothing is sacred
