How? I was responding to heights ridiculous plagarism charges by pointing out it’s still a practice. As long as it’s purchased and Zep did end up paying for the songs.

So? They didn’t just remake them, they used parts of them.
Even George Harrison got sued for “My Sweet Lord” and some stupid Brit court and judge said he was guilty of “stealing” three chords from “He’s So Fine”. On the stand George pointed to facts: there are only so many musical notes and it’s impossible not to duplicate or get close.
I guess you’ll trash a George Harrison thread next.

George did steal the beginning to ‘he’s so fine’.

Sing the lyrics of ‘The times they are a changing’ to the melody of ‘Hello young lovers’, interesting.

Mozart used other composer’s music in his own. Beethoven used Pachelbel’s Canon in the rondo of his Op. 28 Piano Sonata somewhat sneakily; Richard Strauss took 50 themes from Vittorio Gnecchi’s 1905 opera Cassandra for use in Elektra.

If people want to believe they just ‘sampled’ music fine go ahead. To me, if you sample a man’s melody line and lyrics, without due credit, then assign writing credit to yourself, and collect the royalties, your nothing but a thief.
