Yes these are eerie and fascinating.
From past research I recall that:
The spikey projections coming out from the bottom of many of the blasts are the explosive vaporization of the coating/galvanize of the tower guy-wires. The wires are visible in some of the photos.

Cool photos of the blast. From another thread a few weeks ago; a link to a “TED” talk on “femtophotography” at 1 trillion frames per second. Pretty amazing what has transpired in 60 years.
