The north can be called “Grassland”.

And the part containing Hollyweird will be known by the same name except the "GR" will be dropped. Actually California is properly represented in the U.S. Senate. It has two Senators just like every other state.

Same applies to a number of other states. Ohio (my state) should be three, PA should be at least two (probably three), NY should be two, and on and on.

On the other hand Texas should absorb Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana and the Dakotas.

All these tourist got it wrong..

Two states, east CA and west CA...Just draw a line north and south, about 25 miles in from the coast.

Or just make LA, and SF connected by a thin strip north and south...

Good, the section I live in (filled with lots of Conservatives) has most of the water.

Message to the Bay Area and L.A. people:
As soon as this is done the price of water will go up exponentially to account for all of the grief you have given us over the years. Don’t like it? Get used to drinking salt water.

Silly-ass as this idea is, I can go along with a gag.

I see one new state that’ll be so poor it would make Mississippi look like Switzerland the moment it was created.

Sounds like subsidiarity to me.

5. Individuals can move between states more freely.

Yeah, that’s a real problem that needs a solution like this.

That’s what I would say except instead of 25 miles, make it 50 miles with a deviation eastward south of Woodland, north of Stockton, so Sacramento can be in Western California.

That’s a country, not a State (as we understand the term). I don’t disagree, in the long term, though.

Happy New Year! Be safe and stay FRee.
