When I was a kid, our camp did a lot of canoe trips. The grand trip, our final year, was a 21 day trip way up in Canada (about 200 miles north of Montreal, in Scott Paper territory). We came across an old hermit who claimed to live in this old cabin for the past 30 years or so. He claimed to have cured cancer, and every other ailment that he needed to deal with... had a cool little fish farm made from sticks and things, and old Playboy calendar... no electricity or contact with the outside world other than the occasional ranger visit.
So, even if this guy is fake, there are some around...
