My late wife and I were priviledged to spend an afternoon tea with Joan Fontaine and Jane Russell.I reminded Joan of seldom shown movies like:”And This Above All”and she wondered how I even knew of them?I grew up in Malibu and(as a child)was a regular watcher of”Movies Til’Dawn”on KTLA,Channel 5/Hollywood.GOD Bless Her!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. Both Joan Fontaine and Jane Russell. They don’t make stars like them anymore.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing that.

There are no male of female actors today that can begin to compare with the likes of them and many of the old Hollywood eras.

Appreciate the tribute. Enjoyed the movie and now anticipate watching Suspicion again soon.

George Sanders certainly did play some slimy characters before he became head master in he “Village of the Damned”.

RIP Joan.

I love Joan Fontaine, and Rebecca is one of my all time favorites.
So sad to hear of her passing.

Rebecca is easily Hitchcock’s most underrated film, although at the time it won Best Picture. Although Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine both turn in great performances, Judith Anderson steals every scene she is in as the psychotic housekeeper, and the plot turn in the middle is one of the best I’ve ever seen.

OT, but another movie I saw recently- you just have to see-
especially you Freeper girls!

.

Shall We Dance- 2004
Richard Gere, Susan Sarandan and Jennifer Lopez.

First, if you’ve ever had any bad blood for Gere, Lopez or Sarandon, this movie can definitely help to repair that. The entire cast (including bit parts) were all incredible actors. Every character had such a warm, funny vibe. There’s no way anyone can see this movie and not have a smile on their face afterwards.

I don’t remember when was the last time I saw a movie and was left with such positive feelings and in such a good mood as after seeing this movie.

Thoreau wrote that most men live out their lives in quiet desperation. A desperation of finding you are doing the same thing over and over again and the years are going by as you do it.

This is a marvelous discussion of marriage, personal evolution, and the journey away from desperation through growth. The characters are believable, poignant, and often funny.

Shall We Dance is a delicious, romantic comedy that doesn’t require magical, unbelievable script devices, sex and violence to make it work.
This movie is compelling for those who believe in second chances and first chances for those who have never taken chances. This movie comes at a good time in American life when our lifestyles are such that we may be coming to that age that for everything we have, we still are empty.

What sets “Shall We Dance?” apart from the majority of films, today, is its lack of cynicism and its warm sense of humor. This is a throwback to another era of movie making where romance and integrity prevail.
It was great to see Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez dance together. Jennifer definitely displayed her years of dance training, here, and it was a great vehicle for her many talents as both actress and dancer. I was so happy to see a film where a man doesn’t have to engage in an extramarital affair or run away from his responsibilities to open his eyes to a new way of life filled with dance and self expression.

I’m always seeking good entertainment that doesn’t resort to raw sex and violence. This one stands on its own with a good story.

Sarandon character’s observations on the reason why people get married is rather interesting and stays with you after leaving the theater:

“We need a witness to our lives. There’s a billion people on the planet... I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you’re promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things... all of it, all of the time, every day. You’re saying ‘Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness’.”
