JARALES, N.M. (KRQE) - A pit bull attacked and killed the woman who owned it at her home in Jarales Friday afternoon.
The Valencia County Sheriff's Office reports the 41-year-old woman had 12 dogs and was in a pen breaking ice in a water dish. Something set the pit bull off, and it mauled her.
When the woman's son came home and found her body, he shot and killed thedog.

Maybe it's because she was dead and they had no owner anymore?
Dog fighting is far more common than people think and pit bulls are the breed of choice. Puppies are also easy sell in the same communities that like to fight dogs.
I don’t know what was going on here, but 12 dogs of any kind seems excessive to me. Bad way to die.
Here’s the problem, a large dog can get the better of you. Not just pit bulls, but shepards and dobermans and others. That’s why I’m still afraid of dogs and wouldn’t have a large one like those.
EEE, this question has nothing to do with you, but who was the guy on FR who used to post pit bull stories until JimRob got sick of him?
Well...I can’t laugh at the weather...five degrees, snow, howling winds.
“Maybe it’s because she was dead and they had no owner
anymore?”
There you go again... spoiling a good conspiracy with logic.
Dogs are dogs. There are a few breeds that are more likely to attack their owners and many would be surprised with which breeds are most responsible.
I would NOT like to be on the receiving end of a (real) Pit Bull. I've had to protect myself from an attacking Wheaton Terrier. Wasn't fun, but I ONLY suffered a deeply gashed and broken right hand thumb.
I'm sad to say, but at least no other people outside of the owner were harmed.
Man....it was on the tip of my tongue but then I remembered Willie and his train fetish and now I can’t remember anything else.
That would be the ‘late, lamented’ Chet99. His spirit still lingers in these pit bull threads...
I believe he was booted on a thread for trashing Palin. It wasn't a pitbull thread.
Chet 99, I’ll still occasionally ping him to one of these pit bull threads just for old time’s sake...
I had never seen the dogsbite.org site. Pretty hard to argue with the death stats they post. My children will not be near a pit bull.
There is so much not in this pathetic excuse for reporting. 5 grossly inadequate lines of *information* and everyone is waving torches and pitchforks.
Let’s see, 12 dogs??
Uh, she’s breaking the ice on the water dish? What the hell was she doing to the dog? Or does anyone here give a damn. It’s a pit bull, that makes it OK to torture it? Any of the deep thinkers here consider that there’s a cause and effect when sick people abuse dogs?
Anyone out there capable of critical thinking? Have I wandered into a trap door into the Huffington Post?
Really sad story. My brother-in-law, a cop, had to kill a pit recently that was in the process of eating some unfortunate teenager. The kid lived, but just barely.
No, that's not really the axiom. Guns don't jump up and rip throats out. Sure, there are "gentler" breeds that are responsible for more biting incidents. Labs probably bite more kids than most breeds. But that's a bite... Or a nip after an hour of being tortured by some little darling hanging on to his tail and whacking him in the balls with a plastic bat. As troubling as such a bite may be... It's just not the same as a dog who's whole ancestral history has been about fighting and killing. Not biting. -killing-. A lab will bite a hand, but a pit will tear a throat out. The difference is not subtle.
My Pit Bull/Dalmation Mix is the sweetest, gentle dog (and most intelligent) Dog that I have ever met. She has the jaws of well..she cold bit your arm in half. She just wouldn’t want to unless a person was breaking in to hurt us.
It’s all how you treat and raise them..
On a side note:You might find this of interest.
;)
But they are such a nice breed of dogs....(not)
