Thanks for the feedback ... Probably an early Border Patrol publicity photo ... but, I wonder why a Nat Geo photographer would take it? Would a Nat Geo photographer ever agree to take a staged photo? Maybe the photographer was contracted by the BP for publicity/PR promotion?

Why would a Nat Geo photographer ever agree to take a staged picture.

Couple of assumptions on your part:

1. You assumed the photographer was Nat Geo staff
2. Absent text you assumed the photo was sympathetic to the plight off border agents.. The post attributes photo circa 1939. What was happening in the world then. Where did Trotsky run to when forced into exile? Left wingers had long be seeking open borders and agri business was all for it.
3. That National Geographic has any integrity left. They finally admitted, nay bragged, about photo shopping the great pyramids for issue cover shot.

NG started their leftward journey in the early seventies. Dropped our subscription at that time, which was started in 1954.

It was probably his idea, Nat Geo is not a news org, they stage the critter stuff all the time.
