Medical school. Oh, boy, this is gonna be great! So much for future affluence.
I like to tell the story of my grand nephew, who years ago saw this coming (he really is that prescient) and dropped plans to be a doctor. Next spring he receives his PhD. in engineering from a major university. Good move.

Interestingly, one of my colleagues in fellowship training was from a European country that had socialized medicine. He went back and practiced there, and essentially became one of the highest paid physicians in the world - honestly. He did it by seeing private patients after hours (i.e. outside of the required time he spent doing national health service work). These types of systems wind up being two-tiered, and in my view our traditional system is much fairer to patients.
