I teach at a local community college.

A few years ago, I read an interview by an instructor at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Calif. who complained that her students didn't know the difference between wails, Wales and whales.

Probably her students would not understand the lyrics of the Peter, Paul and Mary song:

"And when they're really wailing,
Michelle and Cass are sailin'..."

Are Michelle and Cass making noise or hunting whales?

Of course the students probably haven't heard of either the Mamas and the Papas or Peter, Paul and Mary.
