We dumped DirecTV in August 2012 when they upped my BASIC Package (no movie channels!) to $95/mo. and haven't looked back.

I put up an HDTV Antenna ($30 from Home Depot) and subscribe to Netflix and Hulu Plus. I pay $16/mo. for both NetFlix and Hulu.

My teenage sons found plenty that they liked on Netflix and Hulu and we don't miss Cable/Satellite at all.

if you and they like foreign shows, try dramafever and viki.

DramaFever has a ton of spanish and asian dramas.

Ditto what usconservative said - I did the same thing. Only I had Comcast cable, which I actually liked, it was just too pricey. Even with a higher h/s internet bill I still came out way ahead using Netflix/Hulu Plus/antenna.
