FDA approves first drug treatment for Peyronies disease
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved a new use for Xiaflex (collagenase clostridium histolyticum) as the first FDA-approved medicine to treat men with bothersome curvature of the penis, a condition known as Peyronies disease.
Xiaflex is the first FDA-approved non-surgical treatment option for men with this condition, who have a plaque (lump) in the penis that results in a curvature deformity of at least 30 degrees upon erection.
Peyronies disease is caused by scar tissue that develops under the skin of the penis. This scar tissue causes an abnormal bend during erection and can cause problems such as bothersome symptoms during intercourse.
Todays approval expands the available treatment options for men experiencing Peyronies disease, and enables them, in consultation with their doctor, to choose the most appropriate treatment option, said Audrey Gassman, M.D., deputy director of the Division of Bone, Reproductive and Urologic Products in the FDAs Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
Xiaflex is a biologic medicine (made from the protein product of a living organism, collagenase clostridial histolyticum). Xiaflex was first approved by the FDA in 2010 for the treatment of Dupuytrens contracture, a progressive hand disease that can affect a persons ability to straighten and properly use their fingers. Xiaflex is believed to work for Peyronies disease by breaking down the buildup of collagen (a structural protein in connective tissue) that causes the curvature deformity.

You'd think the audience would shrink from that.
There once was a man from Nantucket.....
Heard about the black syph aka Superclap in Vietnam. Those afflicted were consigned to the Con Son Island tiger cages, we were told.
Thank heavens I saved my self from that, imagine my
surprise when I caught the clap from the first hippie
girl I slept with. Haha jokes on me.
Funny; last night I watched SNL and they had a skit about michaelangelo. He was revealing his David statue and the model was there, and it was all about the size of his life model. Sounds dumb but I was laughing.
Ouch!!!
I was involved in the testing of this treatment method several years ago and I can say from my experience that it does work. At least it did for me. I had tried another treatment method earlier and it didn’t work. However, since the treatment was regarded as experimental I was banned from donating blood for a full year following the treatments.
The description of the treatment in the article was quite accurate; however, it left some parts out. For two weeks following the injections I was required to stretch and bend my penis in order to straighten it. This had to be done daily. I also was barred from sexual activity for a week following the injections.
Even with all of this it was well worth it.
My urologist, Dr. Laurence Levine, Rush Medical Ctr., Chicago, IL, was involved in the testing also. I would recommend him to anyone suffering from Peyronie’s Disease.
Dr. Levine is widely regarded as one of the top experts in this condition in the country, if not the world. He has written at least two books on the subject. One for physicians and one for patients.
You had to remind me .
it’s true. We’re all 12 on the inside...
