There are working poor who, after paying for groceries, rent, and other necessities, don’t have enough money to buy gifts for their children. For low skilled people, it has always been, and will always be this way. A poor economy makes it worse because there is no upward mobility in jobs.

Most churches and communities offer programs where you can sponsor a child or family for Christmas.

Which is why Obama’s war on America must be publicized more broadly. Obama did this, along with his crony capitalists and the Democratic Party. This is their policies of misery.

Last year, the company I work for sent gifts to our military. This year, my employer took up gifts for needy children overseas. I told them I would not be participating this year, I'd rather give to American children.

Clearly inadequate. The LAT needs to call for government programs for Christmas holiday gift distribution centers.

I have helped the same family for years at Xmas.
Everybody has a story. I don’t care to hear it, I just make sure kids in the age groups that believe in Santa get gifts.

The Church my family and I attend does just that. We've been members of this church for the past 16 years. Every year that I can remember the need has grown more and more.

I don't know if that's a sign of the economic times (although that's certainly the case the last five years) or just more families trying to get "their freebies."

If I had just a little more means I would connect with some local churches who share a food bank and try to get corporations to send us their old laptops (instead of having them shredded or something) so we can put Linux on them and give them to kids like you mention.

Maybe next year...
