I didn’t see it, but I think it’s a wonderful thing to perform this musical live, particularly given its pro-family and family-friendly subject matter. Julie Andrews was amazing, but she can no longer perform. I respect Carrie Underwood for taking this on, especially since she must have known that she was going to be compared to such an talent. Good for her.

You can watch it on the NBC site . It’s great. my daughters tell me it’s closer to the Broadway production than the movie was. And conservative themes, as they play out between the Captain, Max and a much more attractive and passionate Frau Schrader , are emphasized. Especially when Max throws himself under the bus at the end. The Mother Superior quoting Psalms as she helps them escape is also something I don’t recall from the movie, which I have seen many times, though not for 10 years.
