A couple of years ago,in January,I spent a night in Val d’Or,Quebec...several hundred miles north of Montreal.Arrived at 19:00,it was -10F.At 08:00 next morning it was -31F.Much to my surprise my car (a diesel) started.

A couple of years ago,in January,I spent a night in Val d’Or,Quebec...several hundred miles north of Montreal.

Went to HS in Val d'Or. Minus 35F & occasionally -40F wasn't all that unusual in January and February. Going for two or three weeks at a time without the temperature exceeding 10F for the high was routine.
Everyone had a block heater in their automobile or truck ... a diesel starting in those temperatures (diesel fuel can gel if not winterized) takes a toll on the battery. You're lucky.
