The press has been speculating on Marshall for some time now, and that’s pretty much the “consensus.”

These daily posts drive home how much activity was taking place at the high staff levels and at the major conferences. If I were Roosevelt I would want Marshall with me when dealing with Brooke and the other British high command when I had to deal with some project or other of Churchill's.

And beside that, he was a damn fine Chief of Staff when the Army was at a size it had never seen or even imagined.
