You’re right! I forgot all about sheetrock mud buckets. They clean out very easily. These days I do not have access to sheetrock buckets, but I can get all the paint buckets I need.
I don’t container garden much...I am blessed to plant in native soil.

I generally only grow what I can eat (or in the case of tobacco, smoke). That means no flowers for me.

I'm still trying to get my button mushrooms to grow, and haven't tried any of the exotics until I get that down. Being a former cook, I do like to have good and fresh foods to work with, and the more of it I can grow myself, the happier I am.

One thing few people grow is mint. We had a field of it around a small spring, and I got up early in the morning to pick live mint and drop it into boiling water, the tea is red as a ruby in color and intense in aroma to a level that makes celestial seasonings dried out mint a hollow ghost and a mockery in comparison. Delicious...with just a liitle sugar...like an intense candy cane with earthy herbal background because it’s real, not chemicals. The aroma especially is incredible..lung opening. Very good for digestion and inflammations so they say.

I have tried to only grow what I eat...But, alas, the only work I want to do is farm, and the Lord has blessed me with two green thumbs.
I have not tried to grow button mushrooms. When I grew shiitake, I was in the southeast and had plenty of hardwood trees. Now I am in the southwest and if I want to grow mushrooms it will probably have to be portabella/button or the other compost inhabiting mushrooms. But, first I should build a mushroom house, as the climate is pretty hostile towards mushrooms. I saw the photograph of your garden space - lots of big trees. You could probably grow either wood inhabiting or compost inhabiting mushrooms. The best of both worlds.
AND there are at least 100 edible blooms. Eat your flowers!

Fresh mint is miles better than any of the dried stuff. I grow most of my own herbs because the fresh is so much better than what comes in the stale little jars.

We spent a lot of money at the restaurants for fresh herbs. But as you say, it makes all the difference.

This variety had somewhat red stems too. More peppermint than spearmint flavor.

I’ll take any color mint I can get. Inhaling the scent is heavenly!
