James Hornfischer has three books out that I know of.
Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors. About the Taffy 3 and the battle of Leyte Gulf. I have read this book and highly recommend it.
Ship of Ghosts. About the USS Houston and the fate of the Houston and her crew at the start of WW-II. No the list to read.
Neptune’s Inferno. About the naval actions off and around Guadalcanal. I have read this is well and highly recommend it also.
Linkee to Amazon about the Hornfischer books. Nice capsule summaries there.
One other book I would recommend is Shattered Sword By Jonathan Parshall and Anthony Tully. Battle of Midway from the Japanese point of view mainly. Very interesting and without giving to much of the book away, one thing I learned is that Japanese carrier ops were about 180 degrees from way US Navy carrier ops.
Parshall and Tully are behind the website Combined Fleet.
Almost everything you could want to know about the Imperial Japanese Navy in WW-II. Great page on who had the best battleship as well!

Henkster has referred us several times to the Combined Fleet website and I agree it is excellent.
