No, they aren’t over 5 miles in diameter. How does a 1.5 km diameter comet, turn into pieces that are 5 miles in diameter?
The only gravity that matters is when ISON sling-shot around the sun breaking up, the pieces still travel in the same direction ISON was going. Nothing was there to knock it off course.
