yes there are basements in TX! I grew up in a house in the dfw area that had a full finished out basement and we had a pool too. Builder was from up north there were about 12 houses in our neighborhood with a basement.

I have a basement about 20 miles from Grandview. It takes special drainage that most contractors don’t want to mess with. We built it ourselves and it doubles as a great tornado shelter. But we can’t do propane because of it.

I beg to differ...

I live in San Antonio and I have a basement!

Admittedly they are rare due to the difficulty of digging one out and building a house on top, but there are a few.

Most Texas houses are built on concrete pads...

There are no basements in Texas.

While basement homes are not common, I know of two different subdivisions between Dallas and Ft. Worth which have houses with basements.

There are a few. And if this is an owner-built home it certainly could’ve had one.

If you are a Texan or an Okie you had bleep well better have a secure basement, outside underground shelter or at least a root cellar. Do not, REPEAT do not pipe gas to/thru/or by it. It doesn’t matter if digging is hard. It’s not nearly as hard as trying to climb down from the top of a tornado.———you been warned.
