I haven’t seen or read the movies or books, but could you answer a question? Would a liberal see it, as you say, as a commentary on THIS government, the 0bama government? Or would they see it as a commentary on government in general? The reason I ask is because my big-lib sister-in-law went to see Catching Fire with my niece on Thanksgiving night. I think she saw the first one, also. I would love it if she could relate the movie to the 0bama administration. Thanks.
I think a lib would identify with the “downtrodden” of the other districts, and liken the Capital more to the Military Industrial Complex and Corporate Elites.
After all both right and left have been trying to claim Orwell for decades.
BTW, no movie has a “message”. Or maybe it does. The “message” is an actors way of being relevant. But, actors are irrelevant , their films are irrelevant, with the exception of entertainment value, all of hollywood is irrelevant.
We can't have it both ways.
At this stage of the game I'm not sure the difference is big enough to matter.
By way of example I give you Richard Nixon's EPA, Or GHW Bushes ADA.
