What is your favorite 5 minutes in a situation comedy?
Happen to see Vitameatavegamin yesterday clicking through the dial. But I think the funniest is Fred returns drunk from St. Louis .”quick soon, call the zoo tell’em we caught the gorilla faced uglymopotomus ” etc...
“What is your favorite 5 minutes in situation comedy?”
When Odumbo stated we had 57 states...then changed it to 59 states, and actually was serious.
Newhart ‘Moo goo gai pan’
I'm not a fan of situation comedy (the canned laugh tracks and loud voices are like nails across a chalkboard for me) but if I have to pick my favorite 5 minutes, it was probably "Gilligan's Island" when NASA crashes a "Mars Probe" on the island and when the Professor finally gets the camera working, Gilligan somehow has them all covered in glue and feathers so NASA thinks Mars is a planet full of giant chickens.
I can’t name my favorite, but just as I am often, almost shocked at how high quality and effective some pop songs can be when I hear something from the 50s or 60s, 70s, 80s,etc, and even on rare occasions today, sit-coms can be like that.
Some of them from all of the various decades, have been an incredible artistic/comedy success that we sometimes trivialize, I mean really.... pop songs, sit-coms? but some of them are amazingly effective, to be delivered in such tiny, short packages, is amazing to me.
All in the Family, Archie gets trapped in the basement, gets drunk, thinks God has come to save him... It’s the black garbageman.
Three’s Company, Roper wakes up, discovers he’s in bed with Jack.
Both classic takes and wonderful natural audience laughs.
Tim Conway and the pesky fly in the hotel room.
.
Tim Conway Elephant Story on The Carol Burnett Show.
And there’s always Seinfeld and “shrinkage”
I’m too tired to be specific, but I wanted to throw in a mention of Monty Python. Lots of laughs there.
The Kleebob Game — Burns and Allen
“Better Living through Television” Chef of the Future commercial — The Honeymooners
Abbot & Costello - Slowly I Turned..... step by step
Where’s all the moon maidens!?
Korman and Conway as the clumsy dentist is very good.
Mork and Mindy had lots of good “unititated outsider” bits.
Bob Newhart would usually give me at least one stroke per episode of any of his shows from laughing so hard. Bill Cosby is also very good at that blank stare after a funny moment.
Don Adams on Get Smart was hilarious.
I don’t know. Too many good moments to pick just one.
Runners up, Mary Richards has a bad everything day and has to accept an award.
Mary Richards at Chuckles’ funeral.
Any 5 minutes of Dave Chapelle’s old comedy central show beats all of that.
It’s hard to choose, but probably George Costanzas adventures at the unemployment office, ending with Jerry saying “And you wanna be my latex salesman”.
