“Jacob? JACOB!” Matthew was shouting at Jacob who was huddled behind a crate, breathing in a labored fashion, unresponsive.
They had rounded a corner and run face first into a security team.
Jacob had immediately become a ball of fury, slaughtering the small group with wild abandon.
As well as traumatizing Roger to no end.
Once Matthew had Roger back on his feet and safe from inhaling his own vomit, Jacob had vanished.
“Angelie?” Jacob said haltingly.
“OH..crap.” Matthew muttered as he watched Jacob drip the blood of his enemies onto the immaculately white floor.
Jacob sat, eyes unseeing, staring off at the inside of his own memories.
His shift at the security desk had ended thirty minutes before, he headed to the promenade.
“Daddy!” the voice squealed as his daughter barreled into him.
“Easy there. You’re almost strong enough to hurt me! Look! I’m fading away before your eyes!” for dramatic effect, he slowly sank to the floor.
“DaDEEE!” complained his daughter, Amelia was always unimpressed with her fathers attempts at a joke.
“Perhaps a kiss from a princesss will revive me?” he said hopefully from the floor.
“Perhaps.” smiled his wife Angelie.
The station shuddered as if something had collided with it, then after a few seconds the alarms began.
Jacob swore under his breath as he stood back up.
Tapping his earpiece, his pupils narrowed, then shot wide.
“Angelie, we have to get out of here now.” the three began to run down the promenade towards the interlink.
The promenade had two entrances, it was a terrible bottleneck with few ways out.
It had been designed for beauty, not defense.
Jacob was listening in to reports, and praying that the way ahead would be clear.
They had made it through three halls and several junctions before the news came to him, they were cutoff and behind the enemy advance.
He had turned to head back to the emergency stations scattered throughout the station when a small group of invaders had caught them.
He’d seen his daughter crumple into a heap, his wife turn to catch her, then she too fell.
He was the last, the pain was intense.

He heard a heartbeat.
He should not have been able to hear a heartbeat.
He should have been dead.
An elbow was in his back, a leg over his chest.
His eyes opened, he was covered in blood and laying on a pile of-
“Place the rest of them on the pile, private.” the soldier he could see was pointing towards him as two others dragged a body into the room.
“I hate it when they have their eyes open. That’s so creepy.” the private said, shaking his head.
Jacob had his hand on something, felt like a grenade.
These fools had no idea what a Sireenian grenade was!
Pushing the button, he threw it underhand from on top of the pile.
If he was too weak to throw it well, at least he’d be out of his misery and these three would begone too.
*klunk*
The grenade hit the opposite wall and rolled.
“What’s that?” no you idiot, you don’t pick it up!
Of course the idiot picked it up, and brought it to his superior.
Who then promptly got bathed in a plasma particle ball.
The private turned around, half his face burned, screaming.
Jacob was already there, unsteady on his feet, with his claws out.
“If you shoot me, make certain I am dead.” his voice was gargling, low.
The stress was put on the last word as the private began to scream louder.
And nobody said anything about Jacob and his ultimate of bad days.
