While Obama Remakes the Courts, Harry Reid Wants to Remake the Senate

The Senate Majority Leader is threatening again that he will break Senate rules to change the rules—so he can do anything he wants with the bare minimum number of votes (51).

...This would mean effectively ending the use of the filibuster, Senators’ ability to speak at length against measures they oppose. That would be bad news, as this Senator explained:

"Everyone in this chamber knows that if the majority chooses to end the filibuster—if they choose to change the rules and put an end to democratic debate—then the fighting and the bitterness and the gridlock will only get worse."...

You can thank Mitch McConnell for this, for agreeing to cede more and more power in the position of the Majority Leader, because he thought he would be Majority Leader by now.

I hope the people of Kentucky make sure he never is!

Make the passing margin 60% of votes in both the House and Senate as a Constitutional Amendment.

we have pl;enty of laws. Any additional should be well considered and an obvious benefit to the People.

Do these Leftists ever stop to consider that they might not always be in power?

There may soon come a time when Democrats will regret having concentrated so much authority in the Executive branch and Congressional leadership.

Actually I am all in favor of Reid ending the pretense of civility. As long as the Republicans don’t once again offer civility denied them by the Democrats.

Each and every time the Democrats treat them like dogs they respond by trying to be nice when they are in the majority. That is total B.S. and it has to end.

This is one of the biggest reasons to get rid of the RINOs. If we can just be rid of them, then we can actually fight back against the Democrats, instead of rolling over so that the other hole can be raped as well.

Reid continues to carry on as if he expects the dhimmicraps to forever control the Senate. He doesn’t seem to realize that his (presently) pro-majority rules changes are very likely to come back to haunt him (or his successor) when America finally changes that majority.

Better that both houses should entertain commonsense rules changes.

ONLY one subject in a bill, and it’s amendments. Get rid of using porkbarrel amendments to secure support for otherwise wrongheaded bills.

Require two-thirds majority votes for ALL bills involving expenditure of funds.

Likely there are many more to be considered.

Time to pitch the whole bunch of them out on their ears, and start over. We can do better...

The change in power may come soon and Reid’s lack of foresight will be revealed.

I always like Robert Heinlein’s idea of two Houses one that only PASSED laws but that need 67%+1 to pass... the other that only REPEALED laws where you could repeal a law with 33%+1... the logic being if a law makes so much sense that two thirds can support it, it’s probably a good law, but ifone third of people can’t abide the law, it ought to be repealed

I'll never forget seeing Reid on the news when Boehner said the House wasn't going to look at immigration, shock and disbelief.

As long as we have the House we need to fight back or we won't have jack next time around.

I'd agree with that. Passing new laws should need 60%.

Deleting old ones should only take 50%.

Maybe that would give them some incentive to finally work on cleaning up the u.s. code.

A good idea, except I like Heinlein's better, from The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress. He suggested two legislative bodies, one where a two-thirds vote was required to pass a law, another where a one-third vote could repeal a law.

Interesting idea! It certainly would reduce the size, control, and expense of government.

I think the idea is that if the Democrats lose their majority in the November 2014 elections, they would change the rules back to what they are now before the end of the session.
