“Best software for tracking investments”
Whatever the IRS uses?
we use MoneyDance - it’s not as good as MS Money, but it works.
bump place holder.
Excel.
Nothing else comes even close. Until you can write your own spreadsheet for tracking investments, you are at the mercy of some programmer who has the best interests of the company he works for at heart.
If you have your own best interests at heart, you should know how to write a spreadsheet that has what you want.
Heh... just got through with Quicken 2014... an “upgrade” for my previous version 2011. It was total crap... even with the R3 release... and now sits on the front porch waiting for UPS to pick up and send back to Amazon.
I installed the free “Sunset” version of MS Money and am now trucking along just fine.
I’m just curious. I never found Quicken to be good at tracking investments. However, it’s more than adequate for keeping track of my checking and savings accounts along with my credit card transactions.
I have two Excel spreadsheets to keep track of my investments. I have one spreadsheet to track shares bought / sold, dividends, etc. But I’m a long time investor and I don’t have many transactions in a year. The other spreadsheet is my important one. It tracks the monthly value of my investments so I know if we are on track with our retirement savings. Basically it’s a list of my checking, savings, and investment accounts (my Roth IRA, husband’s Roth IRA, our Fidelity account, my rollover IRA, my husband’s 401(k) account, etc.). I update it monthly and have formulas at the bottom of each monthly column to show the increase / decrease from last month, the increase / decrease from last year end, and the increase / decrease from 12 months ago (both $-wise and %-wise).
What, specifically, are your requirements? Are you tracking a number of investment accounts with numerous transactions? What information are you looking for your software to tell you?
