“Buddy of mine was on field maneuvers Christmas in Germany.”
What army unit was in the field in Germany during Christmas? That was one of the times of year it was great to be a soldier in Germany. The Mess Hall served top notch meals to the troops. They even had bottles of wine on the tables for the troops. I spent tons of time in the field, but never on Christmas.

Thanksgiving Day a few years ago, sitting at the table with my step-dad, sharing a bottle of rye whisky and talking old times. He passed away this spring. I miss him.
