Word For The Day, November 12, 2013
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
pococurante [poh-koh-koo-ran-tee, -rahn-, -kyoo-; Italian paw-kaw-koo-rahn-te]
-n
1. a careless or indifferent person.
-adj
2.caring little; indifferent; nonchalant.
[175565; < Italian: literally, caring little. See poco, cure, -ant]
Now that’s cynical.
i think it’s great!
no, that’s fact!
Sure, you close the bar during dinner.
We had 5 hours of open bar at our wedding. Without closing for dinner, we would have been over by 9. Closing for dinner gets you to ten.
I have to thank the union for the 5 day Thanksgiving holiday and the 2 days off for 4th of July.
the groom’s mom is of like mind. we had a nice talk about it last weekend. she said she specifically had the engagment party noon-3 for precisely that purpose. she knows his friends better than i do. i feel so blessed to have someone i am so compatible with, as an inlaw.
kiss those union goons.
See u invite them BUT u make it difficult for them to drink /sarc
You ever seen a tailgate for a Noon football game?
Timing will only discourage the amateurs. ;-)
well the pros will be escorted out by the 100 lb bride, should they act up.
Last summer when the daughter brought the boyfriend home to meet us he joked a lot about a poss engagement. One night she mentioned that his mother spoke only Spanish, no English. I said, “ oh, Jorge, I don’t see this working out if your mother and I can’t discuss the grandchildren together.” He cracked up laughing and moaning about grandchildren. I yelled “gotcha” which made him laugh even harder.
everyone is welcome to booze on their own dime as soon as the wedding is over. weddings cost a FORTUNE and we are not here to finance a drunkfest. period. i have zero tolerance for drunkeness. it’s a failing of mine : )
So true.
Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. Can’t abide drunks on squad calls and u know the trouble I have had with my own son. Not really disagreeing at all. A drink or two is fine, but too many can ruin their day.
nietos=grandchildren NEE A TOES
I may have to. I really like him.
Don’t they charge for the bar by the hour?
That’s the way they do it around here. Of course, that’s firehalls and such, not fancy hotels.
My wife’s brother is getting married next June. They will have their reception in the same firehall where we had ours.
Back then we paid one rate for the rental, catering and alcohol. now the hall doesn’t do their own catering anymore so you have to get another party involved.
Point being, if you pay by the hour for the bar, those who consume more are helping you out in getting the most value for your dollar. ;-)
Yeah, me too. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
